Curtis is a native of Yarrawonga, Victoria, Australia she is the daughter of Carmencita Ojales a Filipina from Bolinao Pangasinan and James Ernest Curtis-Smith, an Australian lawyer. Her father got married Ojales in 1982. Her younger sister Jasmine is also an actor. Clare was a daughter-in-law of their father's family. Her death was at only 4 months old in 2007.
